City of Rushville Special Projects Director Kevin Gardner collaborated with the city's summer interns to create a contest to showcase the 4th of July holiday in Rushville. The result was a Fourth of July Window Decorating contest on Main Street to encourage businesses to decorate for America's birthday.

“The interns contacted the Rush County Democrat and Republican parties about sponsoring this contest," said Gardner. "Both parties were graciously onboard with helping make this contest happen.”

Seven businesses, including Fish Moon Brewing Co., Payne Insurance Agency, Autism Center for Enrichment, The Corner Restaurant, Rush County Sheriff's Department, Mocha Moose, and New House and New House Law Offices, competed in the contest. It was then up to the public to decide which display was the best.

“All the participants had their displays posted on the City of Rushville Facebook page and the winners were determined by the number of 'likes' from the public," explained Gardner. "Another goal (of the contest) was to have a fun Facebook post that engaged the public. We had over 1,300 'likes' on all the displays. Overall, the public enjoyed seeing the talented work each business put into making their business festive. Based on the overall positive reception of the engagement, I would say the window contest was a success!”

The Fourth of July Window Decorating Contest winners were:

First - Fish Moon Brewing Company

Second - Rush County Sheriff's Department

Third - Newhouse & Newhouse.
