City department heads provide updates at BOW meeting

The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Rushville met on July 18 at 5:30 p.m. Present were Mayor Mike Pavey, president Brad Berkemeier, board members Gary Cameron, Phil King, Maria Bridges and  city attorney Julie Newhouse.

DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS:  

Street 

•Since the last meeting, the street department has installed two sidewalks and repaired a storm drain.

Police 

•Chief Tucker reported the new Rushville Police Department (RPD) car is at the station and should be in use within 60 days. 

•Sponsors and players for the K9 golf outing on Aug. 19 that will benefit RPD are still needed. 

Park  

•Director Shaw reported that Corteva is putting in pollinator plots and has asked parks employee Kathi Jackley to consult with them on the project.   

•The last day for the Waggener pool is Saturday, Aug. 5.   

•The total funds raised from the Mayor's 5k was $5,654.58.  

•The department will break ground for the new pergola being built at CDJ Park in early August.

Animal 

•Director Hanna reported that they have completed five transports since the last board meeting. •For the rest of July, cats and kittens at the shelter are available for adoption for $25. 

NEW BUSINESS:

Public Works  

Since the posting of the position of planning/zoning/code enforcement, four people have inquired about the position. 

Parks Department

Shaw asked for approval to hire two part-time employees. Berkemeier motioned to approve the park department hiring up to two part-time employees. Cameron seconded the motion. Motion carried.  

Public Safety

Fire/Rescue 

After completing interviews, Chief Justice reported they have decided to hire Mariah Moore contingent upon her passing her physical and psychological testing. 

The exterior renovation of the existing fire department building is expected to be complete by the end of July or early August.

Police Department

The RPD hiring process has been again put on hold as the individual being considered was not eligible.
