Brookville officially welcomes Hilltop Restaurant

By Cheyenne Lance-

Here on Main Street, you will find a restaurant that has been a popular eatery since the mid 1800s. As the Canal House, Union House, Taproom, Ye Old Shack, Crazy Dogs, and now Hilltop Restaurant, the building at 300 Main Street has been a staple in Brookville for almost 200 years.

Hilltop was purchased by Brandon Ball and his father late September of 2021. At the time, it was Crazy Dogs, but Brandon knew he would be changing the name soon as he had many new ambitions for the place. With any such business, Brandon knew it was important that he figure out what the town would want. So, with the help of Facebook polls and the opinions of the community, the winning name became Hilltop.

When asked what led to the purchasing of the business, Brandon listed two great responses.

Passion and Opportunity.

As a lifelong resident, Brandon knew he could offer the community so much more with this space. Often, many people would find themselves leaving Brookville to go find themselves a delicious meal. With this in mind, Brandon thought, "Why not transform Crazy Dogs into a cozy, family-friendly restaurant that focuses on quality of food, and customer experience, while still offering alcoholic beverages."

Hilltop also has a patio space that wasn't being used to its fullest potential. Now, this open space is perfect for outdoor dining, karaoke, cornhole tournaments, and much more.

For those wondering why the name change to begin with?

Brandon states that Crazy Dogs held a reputation that seemed to offset Brookville. True to the name, it's not often that people would state they were craving a hot dog. He didn't want to be known as the hot dog place; Brandon wanted to give more to the community. What he wanted to convey was the difference between a "bar" and a "restaurant." Hilltop is a restaurant first and a bar second. Brandon hopes that with the name change, it will encourage families to come out and have an enjoyable dinner with staff who want to provide the coziest, comfortable, and pleasant-filled experience.
When asked, Brandon states that he does have some plans, but that right now, the name change was his biggest task. In the immediate future, he will be looking at offering more reasons to stay local. Some options include expanding the menu, providing some unique experiences to help engage the community, or simply expanding the marketing to reach more mass. Brandon would like to see Hilltop as a valuable community asset for everyone.
