Sonja Jean Tinch

Sonja Jean Tinch 73, of Connersville, passed on October 25, 2023, at home surrounded by family.  

Jean was born May 26, 1950, in Connersville to Virgil Dale and Ena Faye Lakes.  She graduated with an Associate Degree of Nursing from Indiana University and later she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Indiana Wesleyan University.  Jean was a Registered Nurse for over 30 years, working many years in the ICU at Fayette Memorial Hospital.  She then worked for 11 years at Rush Memorial Hospital where she was a charge nurse for the Emergency Department.  Jean was a member of New Heights Christian Church.  She loved spending time with family and friends.  Jean also enjoyed travelling, gardening and crafts.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Paul Tinch; two sons, Matthew (Shanon) Tinch and Andrew (Darla) Tinch, both of Everton; three grandchildren, Josh (Janny) Steele of Everton, Jacob (Kelsie) Steele of Connersville and Carlie (Charles) Murray of Brookville; five great-grandchildren, Cooper, Rylie, Connor, Austin and Dean; sisters, Ruth Ann (Ted) Reuss of Brookville and Pamela Lakes (Kenny) of Middletown, Ohio; nieces, nephews and many friends.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Jonathan M. Tinch.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin County Community Foundation, Jonathan Tinch Memorial Scholarship Fund, 527 Main Street, Brookville Indiana 47012

Visitation for Sonja Jean Tinch was Monday, Oct 30, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at New Heights Christian Church, 2752 Indiana Hwy 44, Connersville.  Funeral service was conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 31 at the church, with Ryan Phelps and Dr. Martin Wright officiating.  Burial was in Everton Cemetery.  Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel proudly serving the family.
