Lora J. Volz

Lora Jean Volz, age 71, of Cedar Grove, died Wednesday afternoon November 1, 2023 at her residence in Cedar Grove.

Born November 18, 1951 in Batesville, she was one of three children born to the late Carl William and Naomi Mae (Foreman) Bergin.  On July 25, 1970 she became the wife of William E. Volz, and he survives.

Mrs. Volz was retired from Brookville Elementary School where she had worked for 32 years as a teacher’s aide, where she had the opportunity to mentor hundreds of children through the years.

In her leisure time she enjoyed playing cards and working crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed playing bingo at the senior center.  In her younger years she enjoyed caring for her horses.  Most recently she enjoyed taking rides through the country with her husband, Bill, and going out to eat. 

She was a member of the Whitcomb United Methodist Church and a former member of the Delts Sorority.

Besides Bill, her loving husband of over 53 years, survivors include two children, Paula Ballinger and Matt Volz both of Brookville,; two grandchildren, Aaron Ballinger and Brantley Volz; two brothers, William J. (Karen) Bergin of Brookville, Indiana and Mark (Faye) Bergin of Brookville; as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a date to be decided.  Don't cry for Lora; but remember her smile and her loving and caring life!
