Wayne E. Halcomb

Wayne E. Halcomb, of Brookville, was born on February 23, 1950 in Batesville, a son to Charles and Cora Bravard Halcomb.  He graduated from Brookville High School and later married Sharon Schwegman at Holy Guardian Angel Church in Cedar Grove on November 27, 1970.  Wayne worked at D&M in Connersville until it closed and owned Quick & Easy Market in Brookville until 1997.  He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and had mentored students at St. Michael School, and coached sports as well.  He enjoyed his time with the students and all of them appreciated his tutelage – each had a special place in his heart.  Wayne was an avid IU fan and loved mushroom hunting.  On Monday, November 20, at the age of 73, he passed away at Margaret Mary Health in Batesville.

Those surviving who will cherish Wayne's memory include his loving wife of nearly 53 years, Sharon Halcomb; two sons, Doug (Angie) Halcomb and Craig (Magan) Halcomb; two grandchildren, Brittany and Grant Halcomb; five siblings, Debbie (Dwight) Race, Belva Stirn, Delores (Art) Jackson, Patty Hall, and Winton (Shirley) Halcomb, and one brother-in-law, Elton Kennel.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brother Donald Drew and his wife Margie, sister, Helen Kennel, sister and brother-in-law Faye and Kenny Houck, sister Joyce and her husband, Larry Bird, and brothers-in-law, Jerry Stirn, and Tom Hall.  

Friends visited with the family Friday, November 24, 2023 at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, 929 Main Street, Brookville.  Father Vincent Lampert officiated a Mass of Christian burial on Saturday at St. Michael Church at 10:30 a.m. and interment followed in the church cemetery.
