Joseph Lee Thatcher

Joseph Lee Thatcher, 39, of Brookville died unexpectedly Monday, October 2, 2023 at his residence in Brookville.      

Born August 23, 1984 in Kankakee County, Illinois, he was the son of Joseph M. and Malinia (Shoemaker) Thatcher. Joe lived all his life in Brookville where he attended Brookville Elementary and graduated from Franklin County High School. 

He was currently employed at Pepsi Cola as a warehouse loader. He had previously worked at Dairy Cottage in Brookville and NAPA auto parts for many years in Brookville.  In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing with close friends at their ponds, playing softball back in the day, watching Cubs baseball, and rooting on his favorite team the Cincinnati Bengals. Joe also spent many hours playing video games with his two nephews who are more like brothers. Joe also loved spending time hanging out with friends in their backyards watching games, sharing stories and making memories. But what Joe loved most was laughing and living life.  If you knew him, you knew he was a big fuzzy bear with an even bigger heart. 

Survivors include his loving mother, Malinia Thatcher of Brookville,; a sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer and Rob English of Brookville; two nephews, Craig (Dustiny) English of Liberty and Cole English of Brookville; two great-nieces, Madi and Maci English; one uncle Randall (Sue) Shoemaker of Cincinnati; aunts Mary (Bill) Thomas of Seneca, Illinois, Laurie Mullett of Bourbonnais, Illinois Bette Thatcher of Colorado, Cindy Thatcher of Lowell. Other relatives; Bob and Shirley English of Cincinnati, and Michele Alfonso all of Cincinnati.  Close friends Erik and Jessica Hansel and Justin and Krystle Halpin of Brookville. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph M. Thatcher, who died on April 30, 2009; paternal grandparents, Virgil and Betty Thatcher, and maternal grandmother Evie Wills.

All are invited to attend a celebration of life held at Third Place, 734 Main Street, Brookville, on Sunday, October 15, 2023 from 1 until 5:00 p.m.
