The Batesville girls golf team was nonplussed in a tough matchup at Center Grove Aug. 29, played on Hickory Stick's back nine in Greenwood. The Bulldogs shot 158 to CG's 152 and were one stroke away from putting their top three golfers in the 30s. Sophomore Ava South tied Lexi Stuart with the low score of 35 (1-under). Senior Josie Meyer was at 39 but the hosts had 38 from Camille Short and 39 from Ellie Adkinson while BHS' next was junior Addyson Weiler at 40. London Dodson also had 40 for CG. Alexis Gallagher had the final scoring count for the Dogs with 44 while Grace Saner shot 50 and Zoey Ahern 47.
BHS had four of the top five golfers at the Ripley County tournament played last Tuesday on the prairie track at North Branch. Weiler was county MVP with 35 (2 birdies) while South netted 38 (bird) and Meyer 39. Ahern shot 43 and Milan's Kayla Walke 48. Gallagher and Saner had the next best scores at 49. The Dogs' 155 lapped Jac-Cen-Del's 231 card. Milan and South Ripley only fielded three-player teams. Anna Block was low for SR at 54, the same as Nautia Williams for JCD.
Batesville claimed the EIAC championship at Greensburg Country Club Saturday. South makes it back-to-back MVP titles with an even par 70. All 5 Lady Bulldogs earned All-EIAC honors.
