City Dept heads report updates

The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Rushville met on Sept. 5 at 5:30 p.m. Mayor Mike Pavey, Gary Cameron, Brad Berkemeier, Maria Bridges and city attorney Julie Newhouse were present. Phil King was absent.
DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS:
Street
Superintendent Land reported the following:
•Sidewalk applications for the year have been completed.
•The department followed up on the storm sewer at 6th & Spencer but found nothing.
Fire
Chief Justice reported the following:
•Terry Dance's physical has been scheduled.
•Six firefighters and one part-time paramedic are taking a class on fire officers' strategy and tactics.
•Assistant fire chief Green completed a class for fire chiefs with the State of Indiana.
Police
Chief Tucker reported the following:
•An assessment of the 911 program to ensure compliance is scheduled. The main issue being checked is cybersecurity.
•Eclipse mitigation meetings continue.
Planning
Director Copley shared she went through a stack of complaints on her first day and has compiled a list of properties to review. Copley and Pavey will meet to go over a 30-day plan.
Utility
Superintendent Shook reported the following:
•The Diamond Pet Food project continues to go well. Currently, the final coat is being done on the water tower.
Animal
Director Hanna reported the following:
•The outside of the building is being cleaned.
•An adoption event will be held on Sept. 15, 16 and 17.
Park
Assistant Director Jackley reported the following:
•The splash pad is closed for the season
•Repairs will be made to the pool during the off-season.
•The parks department is starting new programs, including Nature and Nurture, along with a mental health initiative.
PROJECT UPDATES
•Work has commenced on 15th Street Parking and Sexton. The area is blocked off. The work across the road will not begin until fall break.
•The Willow Street Mill and Resurface project is underway.
NEW BUSINESS
Animal Control
•An incinerator fence has been ordered.
HIRING UPDATES
Rushville City Utility filled its open position. The parks department hired part-time laborer John Thurston and is still looking to hire one more part-time employee. The street department is accepting applications for two full-time positions, a sanitation truck driver and equipment operator/laborer
Fire/Rescue
The department has received the certificate of occupancy for the new station and has moved in. IT items and the baby box are being worked on.
GENERAL TOPICS
Six bids were received for the grain elevator demolition. The bids are under review and will be awarded on Sept. 19.
