Betty Jean Martin

Betty Jean Martin, 83, of Rushville passed away April 2, 2024 in Greenwood. Betty was born in Rushville April 3, 1940 to the late Carl and Leona (Smith) Liggett.

Betty married James Martin September 23, 1978 and he survives. She loved living in the country and enjoyed afternoon drives through the countryside with Jim. An animal lover, she loved her cats, ducks and chickens.  Betty and Jim also spent time square dancing. Betty was a member of Hannegan Christian Church. Betty was a wonderful grandma. She always helped with the newborns and loved spending time with her grandkids.

   In addition to her husband of 46 years, Jim Martin, she is also survived by her children, Linda Davis (Craig Jacobs) of St. Charles, Mo., Lisa (Mark Bruick) of New Haven, Lee (Sherri) Davis of Winslow, Dave (Jan) Martin of Carleton, Mich., Gary (Beth) Martin of Cave City, Ky., grandchildren, Lauren Walker, Andrea Walker, David Walker, Cole Bruick, Janet Martin, Katie Martin, David Martin, Nate Martin, several great-grandchildren, her sisters-in-law, Lois Liggett and Wanda Liggett all of Rushville, nieces and nephews, Ann (Doug) Toothman, Sarah Liggett (Jerry Kennedy), David (Emily) Liggett, Phillip Liggett, Gary (Margaret) Liggett, Mark (Mary) Liggett.

   Betty was preceded in death by parents, Carl and Leona Liggett and siblings, Denver Liggett, Marion Liggett, Verona Pearsall, Ilene Less, Lavada Tranbarger.

  Services were at 2PM, Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville. Warren Engel presided. Friends were welcome to visit the family  until the time of service the same day at the mortuary. Burial was in Hannegan Cemetery.

Memorials to Riley’s Children’s Foundation and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
