Elizabeth Hargis

April 9, 2024 at 4:01 p.m.

Elizabeth Louise Hargis, nee Winkelman, (Betty Lou), passed away peacefully on April 5, 2024, after a long battle with breast cancer. She was surrounded by family in her last three days.

She was a graduate of Harrison High School in 1967 and a 30-year employee of Hill-Rom in Batesville.

She worked tirelessly as a single mom to support her two daughters, Heather Ann and Lori Rae. She loved reading and music, and going out to eat, especially at Frisch’s where she worked as a carhop during high school.

She was a stubborn, yet a determined woman who refused help, unless absolutely needed, because she believed she could do anything that she set her mind to.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Heather Ann Hargis (Larry McAllister) and her grandchildren: Brandon Hargis, Katy, Noah, and Ashlee Willett, and Aidan, Autumn, and Maia Williams. Also surviving are her siblings: Chuck (Brenda) Winkelman and Candy (Jim) Smith.

She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Lori Rae Hargis, and Lori’s son, Dakota Lee.

At her request, there will be no official funeral, but Betty would love any donations to be sent to the American SIDS Institute, 528 Raven Way, Naples, Florida 34110, to honor her beloved grandson, Dakota.

The family would like to thank Margaret Mary Hospice outpatient for their support and comfort during her three days of hospice care.

Paid Obituary.
