Glen H. Smith

Glen H. Smith, 75, of Logansport passed away on April 5, 2024.

He was born May 21, 1948, in Rushville to Byron and Emily Harton Smith who preceded him in death. 

He attended Rushville High School and then received a BA in Business Administration and Elementary Education from Milligan College in 1971. He earned his Masters in Elementary Administration and Ed.S. in Elementary Administration from Indiana University. Glen taught for two years in Rush County before being hired in 1974 by Pioneer Regional School Corporation as Principal-Teacher at Noble School. He spent the rest of his career at Pioneer Elementary as a 6th-grade math teacher and principal. Glen truly cherished his lifelong contacts with former students, parents, and teachers. He is often described as a favorite teacher and touched many lives through the years.

Glen married Karen Hults Smith in 1974 and had two children, Jessica Smith, Lafayette, Bradley Smith, Zionsville, and one grandchild, Walton Smith, Zionsville. Also surviving is his older, loving sister, Carol Gene Smith Goins, Brownsburg, and several nieces and nephews. Family was paramount to Glen and he treasured every moment spent with them. 

Glen enjoyed spending time in his flower gardens and ponds. He also loved doing projects at his children’s homes. He eagerly anticipated his annual fishing trip to Wisconsin with his son totaling 25 trips. He was proud of the fact he had traveled to all 50 states. In the last few years, Glen took great pleasure in collecting humorous memes to share on social media. He was a long-time regular at Bullshippers Cafe and looked forward to gathering with his friends most mornings. Aside from soaking in his hot tub, another favorite pastime was watching IU Basketball. He was a lifelong fan and never missed a game.

A celebration of Glen’s life will be held Saturday, April 20th at Rans Funeral Homes and Crematory - Harrison Chapel 304 S. Chicago St. Royal Center, IN 46978 where friends and family will gather to share stories, memories, and laughter in remembrance of a remarkable individual.

Visitation will be 10-12:30 pm.

The service will begin at 12:30 pm.
