Wilma Maxine Felton

On April 16, 2024, Wilma Maxine McCormick Felton of Liberty, went home to her Lord and Savior. She was 96 years old.
Maxine was born on April 20, 1927, to Clifford and Mildred Haag McCormick. She graduated from Short High School and was vice-president of her class. She married Sylvan Hugh Felton on December 20, 1953. They celebrated 52 years together before his passing. She worked for several years as the head cook at the schools in Liberty. She was a member of the Greenwood United Methodist Church and was very active there. She taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir and was a member and officer of the ladies’ aide. She was known for cutting rags that were woven into rugs and sold them at local festivals to raise money for the church. She was a great cook. She and the ladies at Greenwood were known best for organizing and preparing food for farm auctions, alumni dinners, 4-H fair food tent and church events. She was a member of the Union County 4-H Association for many years. She was tireless in her devotion to serve others. She was very instrumental in the success of their family farm, where they raised hogs, chickens, crops, and milked cows. She loved to garden and mow. She wasn’t just a farmer’s wife; she was a farmer. She loved farming!
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sylvan; and brother Eugene McCormick.
She is survived by her children; Darrell (Rene’) Felton, Jeanette (Richard) Pippin, Duane (Gina) Felton and Joyce (Fuzzy) Lake; grandchildren; Kristin (Kyle) Post, Katie (Debbie) Felton-Peterson, Evan Felton, Melissa (Bill) Gibbons, Jarrod (Carly) Felton, Justin (Emily) Felton, Matt (Jennifer) Lake, Mike (Samantha) Lake; 16 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law and friend, Jean McCormick; seven nieces and nephews; extended family and friends in the church and community.
