UCCCJSD Board Meeting
August 16, 2024 at 1:43 p.m.
The UCCCJSD held a regular school board meeting to review and cover attendance, policies, administrative updates, and budget plans. Beginning with Cierra Miller, a social worker, she gave the department report. She updates the board on everything she and Ashley Beckett have been taking care of. Both will be attending some conferences soon to better their knowledge about safety and support of their students. They are still working with Meridian and Centerstone, both of which were in the building. Lastly, Cierra talks about the attendance changes. Any student who misses 10 days in a 45-day period will have a referral to the prosecutor. Overall, the support systems are to help avoid this.
The board next discussed enrollment changes. There were more students to come in than when left last year so this is a positive change. Along with students, there are more teachers and instructors to come in. Apologies were made about the playground for the pre-school and kindergarten since there isn’t one right now.
Ninth grade did go down in enrollment, but the elementary schools have made up for that.
With all of the construction changes going on, thanks were made about the investments. Right now, there is a new weight room that the students absolutely love, and the tennis courts are a work in progress, but moving forward smoothly. Photos had been provided to the board to see how smoothly all construction projects are moving. There is a new office over the Ag department, the weight room has working air conditioning. Further on school reports, there were 31 students who took summer school and have gone to the middle school. Those 31 students earned 51 credits, and as these are students who originally failed, they are recovering those credits and passing. The completion rate was a good success.
A band program may be sparse as there is limited interest. However, that is going to be ongoing as they move forward in the school year. Right now, and often, changes need to be made. Instead of panicking about overlaps or unavailability, having your command center lets you stay one step ahead to better prepare yourself and your family. Students going off to college will also benefit from their own command center. If you aren’t sure about your command center or where you want to start, remember that you can find dozens of references and helpful articles online.
In the next installment of the school series, we will cover homework spaces and home offices.
