August 20, 2024 at 3:50 p.m.

Larry A. “Hoss” Angle, 80, of Greenfield, passed away August 12, 2024 at his home.  He was born November 14, 1943 in Rushville to Russell A. and Edith L. (Gorrell) Angle.  Larry was a 1961 graduate of New Salem, 1966 graduate of Utah State where he received his BS and in 1969 he received his MA from Ball State.  Larry married Kathy Bowling on August 10, 1979 and she survives.

Larry farmed in Rush County many years but his true passion was coaching and teaching.  He coached varsity high school basketball at Rushville, Carmel, Tipton, Greenfield-Central and Indian Creek.  He retired in 2005 from Indian Creek.  He won multiple sectionals, regionals and semi-states during his coaching career and led the Rushville Lions to the state finals in 1976.  He was on various committees with the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and was inducted himself in 2010.  Larry traveled nationally to attend clinics and conferences to learn as much about the game of basketball as he could.  For many years Larry never missed a NCAA Men’s Final 4 basketball tournament.  He was a longtime member of the New Salem United Methodist Church.

He will be missed by his wife, Kathy of Greenfield, a son, J.R. (Valerie) Angle of Waukee, Iowa and grandsons, Russell and Decker Angle.  He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Allyson Leigh Angle.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 17, 2024 at the Rushville High School gymnasium.  Friends visited the family in the gymnasium.  Burial followed in Rushville’s East Hill Cemetery.  Pastor Cody Hensley presided.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the New Salem United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church, Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame or to the donor’s favorite charity.

Moster Mortuary, Rushville, entrusted with arrangements.
