The UC soccer clubs were both in action in varsity doubleheaders to begin the fall campaign, taking on New Castle at home Saturday and Franklin County on the road Tuesday.

The girls were shut out by NC 6-0 as the Lady Trojans deposited a trio of goals before and after halftime. Freshman Carlee Lanzer scored half the goals while Chelsie Groce had a pair of assists. UC suffered a 10-1 defeat at the hands of the Lady Wildcats. Behind three goals each from senior Madesyn Sunderhaus and freshman Anabelle Wiesemann and two more by Izzie Riffle, the Cats went up 8-0 before Heaven Fritts scored the Pats’ initial goal. Two more tallies by FC ended the match prematurely.

The boys were upended by the Trojans 4-1; sophomore Quentin Tafoya recorded two of NC’s goals and Jack Bertram two assists. FC laid a 3-0 shutout to the Pats in Brookville. Landon Brewer scored the first goal at 30:29 of the first half, a score that lasted until the break but not before UC had a couple nice looks at the net.

UC’s squads have another road DH today at Tri-County North, Ohio.
