In their season opener against Greenfield-Central last Tuesday, the Batesville Bulldogs secured a 1-0 win. Batesville dominated possession in the first half, creating numerous scoring chances. Despite G-C’s late-game pressure, the Bulldogs held on for the victory. Mathias Davalos scored the lone goal of the match in the 16th minute.

Batesville posted a 7-0 victory over the Rushville Lions in their home conference match Thursday. The Bulldogs possessed the ball well, focusing on possession throughout the game. Simon Berkemeier led the charge with four goals with assists from Brady Wonnell and Azmi Destriantoro. Ben Hunter scored a header off a ball played in by Ronan Post and Talan Rowlett found Carson Laker in the box for a nicely placed shot. 

In their away conference match Saturday morning, the Bulldogs continued their winning streak with a 5-1 victory over the Franklin County Wildcats. On FC’s turf, the Bulldogs scored two goals – both by Rowlett - with assists from Berkemeier and Post. In the second half, the Wildcats answered back with a goal, but the Bulldogs kept the tempo. Simon shot a free kick into the net, Talan had a hat-trick, and Griffin Koester scored the final goal with an assist from Laker. 

The Lady Dogs fell to Lawrenceburg 4-1 in the second game of the Greenfield-Central Kickin’ Cancer tourney Aug. 17. LHS scored twice in each half, led by two for Ava Merkel. Freshman Hailee Weisenbach did the honors for BHS, assisted by sophomore Addie Reding. Senior Sarah Bedel had 9 saves in goal.

The Dogs had no trouble with EIAC rival Rushville Thursday on the road, pitching a 9-0 shutout with seven goals in the first half. Reding booted two goals, with Grace Coffey, Grace Gibbs, Emma Miller, Katherine Lipps, Annie Negovetich, Nora Wiedeman and Weisenbach each collecting one. Nine different girls had assists. Bedel was only tested twice.

The varsity team won 5-0 against Seymour. Scoring for the Bulldogs were Lipps with a hat trick, Miller and Gibbs. Maddie Prewitt, Weisenbach and Reding are each credited with an assist. Wiedeman and Sydney Campbell played great defensively to keep the clean sheet. 

Batesville girl’s JV started off the season with a 4-0 win over Seymour.  Freshman Leah Goodin scored Batesville’s first goal with a volley off a beautiful corner by sophomore Grace Gutzwiller. Four minutes later, sophomore Lily Mehlon scored on a solid strike off a pass from sophomore Payton Krekeler. Sophomore Lilly Richardson scored unassisted with a power shot outside of the 18. To end the game, freshman Cora Miller started a strong run with the ball from the backfield, sending it up to freshman Lily Allison for a goal.
