Recently, the Ripley County Community Foundation held an afternoon gathering for networking around the community and to garner support for any new businesses, grants, projects, and other miscellaneous events throughout Southeastern Indiana. Through the Women’s Giving Circle, these ladies gathered at Ertel’s Wine Cellar for some hors d’oeuvres, delicious desserts, and networking.

One of the aspects for this networking was the Press Forward initiative. This is a movement that centers around strengthening communities through journalism and keeping local newspapers alive. Right now, the pitch is for Rush County, Ripley County, and Franklin County to start our very own Press Forward Chapter. This nationwide journalism movement will help fund our efforts, keep local newspapers active, and have a sense of community growth.

To start a chapter, the counties need commitment, capacity, and creativity. All these incredible women who attended this networking event have been in charge of so many events and projects over the years, all of which were successful in the community. Our local newspapers strive to cover everything in our region so that the community stays included, and through Press Forward, our counties can continue to have the proper funding in order to garner a more positive outtake on future events and community projects.
