Over the last three weeks the Union County Lady Patriots have not lost a game and are currently on a five-game win streak, not a bad way to finish the regular season. UC ended the season with four wins over conference opponents and came close to a winning season, an 11-12 record. UC finished 6-2 in Tri Eastern Conference games, good enough for a third-place finish.

The Lady Patriots ended the regular season Friday evening when they hosted the Centerville Lady Bulldogs. Nora Robinson got UC the lead to start the game after a three-pointer from the corner was good. She added two more points a minute later, but Centerville hit twice, and the Lady Patriots held a one-point lead. Katie McCashland made it an 8-4 game after hitting a three-point basket and Ally Gray made it 11-4 after hitting her own basket from deep. UC continued a 10-0 run with Whitney King hitting a free throw and McCashland sinking her second three-pointer. The Lady Bulldogs stopped the run at 11 after McCashland added a free throw. McCashland ended the quarter with another freebie and scored off a steal to put the Lady Patriots up 19-6 after the first quarter.

Robinson started scoring again in the second frame, giving UC two points from the paint. McCashland followed that with two more UC points and Robinson scored again to make it a 19-point UC lead. Midway through the frame Centerville added a pair of free throws, but Peityn Gillman got in on the action and scored back-to-back on jumpers. McCashland added two more points to UC's tally, Gillman hit her third bucket in the quarter and the Lady Patriots went into the half up 33-8.

A slow start in the third quarter remained scoreless until two minutes into the frame, when McCashland hit her third three-pointer. Centerville matched that with a two-point bucket and the score was 36-10. After a Centerville basket, King scored after grabbing an offensive rebound, Hallie Hughes added two points for UC, McCashland went coast to coast after a steal and UC was up after three quarters 44-12. Robinson, freshman Haleigh Buttery and Aubrey Beck scored in the fourth. The Lady Patriots finished with a 50-17 win.

McCashland's 19 points outscored the entire Centerville team. Robinson added 12 points, her sixth game this season reaching double digits. Gillman added six points, Buttery, King, and Gray all finished with three and Beck and Hughes finished with two each.

The Lady Patriots clobbered Hagerstown (0-21) in the first round of the Class 2A sectional Tuesday, 63-30, setting up Friday's showdown with the host Northeastern Knights in the second semifinal. Tip is approximately 7:30 p.m. UC knocked out the sectional favorite Lady Knights with a 41-34 win last season.

They earned a win by outscoring the Lady Tigers 25-4 in the second quarter. Hagerstown was never able to get back into the game.

Both teams kept the score close for the first quarter. The score was 6-6 until McCashland and Gray each added a basket to end the first frame and UC led 11-6 after one frame. McCashland stole the inbound pass to start the second quarter and scored, adding the next five points before the Lady Tigers added their first basket of the quarter. Robinson put UC up 21-9 after hitting from deep midway through the frame. Over the remainder of the half the Lady Patriots outscored Hagerstown 15-4, led by Robinson's six points, and UC led at the half 36-13.

Hagerstown scored twice to start the third quarter before McCashland got UC going with a layup for two points. Hughes added four points, Robinson added another five and UC led 47-20 with 4:50 to go in the quarter. Gillman got hot and added five points over the remainder of the quarter, giving the Lady Patriots a 55-26 lead after three. The JV team saw playing time for the final frame and UC outscored Hagerstown 8-4 over the eight-minute span.

Leading the way for Union County was McCashland with 18 points, Robinson just behind her with 17, Hughes added 11, Gillman 10, Gray five, King one and Kenidee Lynch one.
