Tough end for senior duo

RICHMOND – It was certainly not the finish to their careers that Union County seniors Jesus Aquino-Morales and Carson Whitley had foreseen in November.
Having reached the semistate round a year ago, each was hoping to make it that far at least; in “Chuwy” Aquino's case, he was coming off a state finals appearance. Saturday at Richmond's Tiernan Center, both saw their Patriot careers end unceremoniously at regional.
It was heartbreak city for Morales as he missed making weight at 132 pounds by a fraction of a pound. He saw a regional alternate enter the bracket in his place. Chuwy ended his season at 34-2. He compiled 152 wins over a storied career.
Whitley suited up at 138, facing off against Centerville's Kale Creech. Creech came in with six more losses than his foe but pulled off a 9-3 decision. Whitley was 35-4 this year and had his hand raised 137 times across four seasons.
Hats off to a pair of Patriot warriors, surely headed for UC's Hall of Fame!
