Joy Marie Lewis

Joy Marie Lewis, age 47, of Laurel died Thursday, February 8, 2024 surrounded by her family at her residence following a brave fight with cancer.

Born April 6, 1976 in Lawrenceburg, she was the daughter of Paul & Paula Mays and Patricia Ritchie.  On August 23, 2014 she was united in marriage to Brian Lewis and he survives.

Joy worked for several years at Marathon and Bedel’s Grocery in Laurel.  She enjoyed working at the store and interacting with people.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Laurel, where she sang in the choir and had taught Sunday School.

Besides Brian, her loving husband of 10 years, survivors include her children, Olivia Engram, Joshua Wilson, Shyla Lewis; step children, Aerial (Eddie) Littleton, Mackenzie (Tyler) Robertson, Kyann Lewis, Andrew Lewis; her father, Paul Mays of Laurel, her mother, Patricia Ritchie of Milan; siblings, April (D.J.) Cowan, John (Lynette) Bills all of Connersville, Jimmy (Missy) Cook of Hamilton, Ohio, Kimberly Harris of Elsmere, Kentucky and Cheryl Tegrarian of Ormond Beach, Florida; eight grandchildren with two more on the way, as well as several nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her mother, Paula Mays; a sister, Sarah Mays, a great-niece, Maelynn Mays, as well as her grandparents.

Family and friends visited on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Laurel, 219 West Main Street, Laurel, Indiana.

Paul Frederick, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Laurel, officiated the Funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, February 11, 2024.  Burial followed in Hopewell Cemetery in Rush County.
