Gilbert Hill

Gilbert Hill, 93, of College Corner, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 12, 2024 at Woodland Country Manor in Somerville, Ohio. He was born on May 9, 1930 in Hamilton, Ohio to the late Herbert Hill and Julia (Ruth) DeGreif Hill.

On January 24, 1951, Gilbert married his high school sweetheart, the former Mary Paulin. Together, they were blessed with three children. 

Gilbert was a farmer in the College Corner community. He was a small business owner, until his retirement in the early 2000s; he owned and operated the sawmill Gilbert Hill Lumber. After retirement, he and his wife spent their summers in Upper Peninsula, Michigan for many years. Gilbert dedicated himself as a volunteer fireman for the College Corner Fire Department for 35 years. He was a member of the College Corner school board for several years. He managed the College Corner Baseball League for many years. Gilbert also participated in bowling leagues for numerous years in the Oxford community.  Gilbert was a very caring person that would do anything for anyone, he will be greatly missed.

Gilbert is survived by his wife of 73 years, Mary Hill; his children, David (Sandra) Hill, Carolyn (Ronald) Williams, and Beverly (Tom) Holland. He will be greatly missed by his eight grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren

Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents. 

Friends and family may gather in memory of Gilbert, on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Urban Winkler Liberty Funeral Home located at 310 N Main Street Liberty, In 47353 from 11:30a.m. until 1:00PM. The funeral service will begin immediately at 1:00p.m.  Burial will follow at College Corner Cemetery.
