WALKERTON – Carolina Catherine Wiwi of Walkerton passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. She was born on June 18, 1947 in Batesville, to the late John and Martha (Sintz) Wiwi. She was 76 years-old at the time of her death. She lived in the area since 1970 coming from Cedar Grove, and graduated from Ball State University in 1969 with a degree in elementary education and an endorsement in science. She spent her career as a kindhearted and caring instructor of third graders at the Walkerton Elementary School for 35 years. Carol battled cancer for five years with courage, grace, and a remarkable ability to always remain optimistic and positive. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and her sweet spirit. She is survived by her lifelong partner of 45 years, Robert C. Throm of Walkerton; Bob's three children Laura (James) Holloman of South Bend, Lisa (Randy) Renners of Mason, Ohio, and Dr. Robert E. (Stacy) Throm of Memphis, Tenn.; one sister-in-law Judy Wiwi; one brother-in-law Jim (Pam) Throm of Darien, Ill.; one nephew Paul (Jessica) Wiwi; and three great-nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; one brother Stephen Wiwi; and one niece Christina Wiwi. Visiting hours were Monday, February 26, 2024 at the Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel. Funeral services were at 2:00 EST also on Monday, February 26 at the Funeral home. Burial followed at Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Walkerton Elementary School to honor Carol's tradition of donating “back to school” supplies, art supplies, warm gloves, and socks for students who may need them.
