Martha L. Shory

Martha L. Shory, 87, of Carthage passed away on Friday February 23, 2024 at Rush Memorial Hospital. She was born on August 29, 1936 in Lewis County, Ky. to the late Wiley and Icy (Hilger) Dyer.

In 1996 Martha retired from Morristown Nursing Home as a nurse's aide. She also worked in home health care in the private sector. Martha enjoyed spending time with family, taking trips back down to the “Holler” in Kentucky, camping, gardening and yard work. She was a member of the Rushville Southern Baptist Church. Martha loved being part of the Dyer Sisters and singing on Rushville Radio WRCR.  

Martha is survived by her children, Gala (Ronald) Helderbrand, William “Billy” (Darla) Armstrong, James Lawrence (Daisy) Armstrong, Florence “Weezie”(Scott Manning) Armstrong , and Paul (Stefanie)Williams; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; sister, Rosemary (Chuck) Kirby; along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Armstrong; son, John Armstrong; sisters, Molly Caudy, Margaret Smalley and Mertie Richmond; brothers, Rev. William Dyer and Charles Wade Dyer; granddaughter, Alissa Craig and special friend, Bill Knipp.

Services will be on Thursday February 29, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Rev. Gene Bennett officiating. Burial will follow at Carthage Cemetery.
