Mabel M. Hensley, age 89 of Liberty, died at Ambassador Healthcare on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.

Mabel was born September 19, 1934 in Pendleton County, Kentucky to Russell and Ruth A. Bonar. The family moved to Harrison Twp., Indiana in 1945. She graduated from Kitchel High School in 1952. She worked at Knollenberg's department store, The Atlas Underwear Co., and Pacific Finance in Richmond. She moved to Liberty after she married George W. Hensley on May 8, 1954. Mabel worked at the law office of Bossert and Toney and Toney and Douglas until 1984, when she and George opened the office of Hensley Tax Service. George passed away in 2005, and the business was continued with daughter Brenda until she retired in 2014. Mabel served on the Union County Council for 13 years. She was an active member of the Women's Republican Club for many years and served as vice chairman as well as county chairman. In addition, she was an active member of the Union County Historical Society, Kitchel Alumni Assn., and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #1472.

Mabel is survived by two daughters: Brenda and Carol; grandchildren and their spouses: Scott A. Ray and Angela, Lora Cruse and Troy, Kara Newman and Michael, Ryan Cole Myers and Aymee; great-grandchildren: Kaytlyn and Kylie Ray, Tory and Tanner Cruse, Logan, Luke, and Lindsy Newman, Riley, Karson and Riker Myers.

Preceding her in death was her husband: George; parents: Russel and Ruth Bonar; sisters: Norma Jean Bonar, Shirley Miller, Betty Donaldson; brother: William Bonar; son-in-law: Danny Holloman; grandson: who was killed during active duty: Jared R. Carson; special friend: Jack.

A funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 8, 2024 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty. Burial followed at West Point Cemetery. Friends visited at the funeral home until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blooming Buds Club c/o the Ambassador Healthcare in Mabel's honor.
