The Batesville Area Arts Council (BAAC) recently announced local art would be brought to the community in a brand new way with "The Art Of" podcast.

BAAC president Paul Satchwill was the brainchild behind the podcast. After living in Batesville for nearly 10 years and seeing the huge impact art has on the community, coupled with his personal love for podcasts, the idea was born.

"I love to learn, and I find it fascinating to learn about how experts grew into their craft," Satchwill said. "I had this idea of putting Oprah and Bob Ross in a room: Bob Ross teaches Oprah how to paint, and Oprah interviews him along the way. After filming the first episode, I can say that the vision came to life!"

Satchwill allows the artists selected to choose their "Oprah" by selecting a community member they would like to do their interview.

"I like giving them this choice as it allows them to bring someone into their space who they are comfortable with," Satchwill explained. "I wanted to create something that both honored local talent and gave the community a glimpse into their creative process. Often, we only see art in its final stage. "The Art of" allows us to see art being created, as well as learn about the process and the artist as well."

Once a duo has been established, Walt Enneking with Van by the River Productions films and edits each episode. Once they're all in the room, the artist and community member will create art using their preferred medium while learning more about the artist and their artwork, and that's where the magic happens.

“I have never seen anything like 'The Art Of' before," Satchwill said. "The balance of interview and creation of art is something unique that I wanted to capture. This podcast relies on a lot of variable factors to be successful. But with the right talent in the room, we've truly been able to create something new and meaningful. I am thankful to the Batesville Area Arts Council for trusting my vision and greenlighting this podcast."

There will be four episodes total, with the first episode being released on Jan. 12. Featured will be local painter Emili Uden, interviewed by Lori Rennekamp, owner of Bird in a Tree Boutique. Each episode is roughly 20 minutes.

“The four of us (Emili, Lori, Walt, and myself) all spent a couple of hours in Emili's in-home studio filming the episode," Satchwill said. "We are so excited to share this episode and future installments with the community!"
