As a part of Save A Lot's Hometown Heroes program, shoppers, team members, and the general public were invited to nominate those doing good work in their community. Eleven people were selected from a pool of nominations nationwide. Rushville's own Marlene Fudge was one of the chosen nominations.

The submission nominating Fudge read, "Marlene has been a volunteer at the Rush County Food Pantry for several years. She coordinates different organizations in the community to help fill 550 backpacks of food each month and deliver them to our junior high and elementary students to help eliminate food insecurities over the weekend. Marlene donates her time three days a week to help stock the shelves at the pantry and distribute food to over 400 families per month. Every month, Marlene also helps with our Mobile Pantry, serving over 350 families struggling with food insecurities. Marlene also packs boxes of food for our home deliveries to seniors who cannot visit the pantry. You will not find anyone more committed to fighting hunger in our community. She is definitely one of a kind."

The 11 nominees have been posted to the Save A Lot Facebook page, and five will be selected and recognized as a Hometown Hero based on how many likes their image receives. The top five images with the most likes will win a $500 Save A Lot gift card. Only likes on the original post by Jan. 19th will count as votes.

Currently, Fudge is in sixth place. To vote for Fudge, visit  https://www.facebook.com/savealot
