Georgia K. “Kathleen” Dunaway, 82, of Liberty passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2024. Georgia was born on December 1, 1941, in Pennington Gap, Virginia, the daughter of the late Claude and Helen Scalf.

On May 26, 1962, Kathleen married the love of her life, Leon Dunaway in Richmond. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage, prior to her passing. They were blessed with two daughters.  

Kathleen worked in housekeeping for the Union County/ College Corner Joint School District. She worked as a custodian for Union County High School for 28 years. 

Kathleen enjoyed listening to bluegrass and gospel music to relax and unwind. She didn't have a lot of hobbies; however, she adored her family and spending quality time with them was a priority.  

Kathleen is survived by her husband Leon, and her daughters, Janice Brown and Debbie Alvis. She will be remembered by special friends Barney and Sandra Barnes, Jason Dawson, her dear friends Joe and Karen. Kathleen will be missed by her several nieces and nephews. 

Along with her parents, Kathleen is preceded in death by her siblings Clayton Scalf, Ervin Scalf, and Dora McCracken. She is also preceded in death by her sons-in-law; Rex Brown, Rick Potters, Randy Alvis, and Tommy Carpenter.

Funeral services for Kathleen will be held on Thursday January 25, 2024 at 5:00pm at Urban Winkler Liberty Funeral Home located at 310 N Main Street Liberty, Indiana. Friends and family may gather from 3:00pm until the time of service to honor Kathleen.
