Barbara J. Kendall

Barbara J. Kendall, 93, of Rushville, passed away January 25, 2024. She was born October 24, 1930, in Indianapolis to the late Virgil and Mary Ethel (Wrennick) Jackson. She was the 1948 Valedictorian of Ben Davis High School. Barbara married Edwin K. Kendall on June 9, 1951, and he survives.
She received her bachelor’s degree in 1952 and her master’s degree in 1967 for Sociology at Butler University. While at Butler University she played basketball for the Butler University Women’s team. Barbara received her teacher’s license. Barbara taught 4th grade at Manilla Elementary and Arlington Elementary from 1968-97.
She was a member of Homer Christian Union Church. While at the church, she held various leadership positions and enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Barbara was a member of Butler Alumni Association and Indianapolis Retro Campfire Girls. She was also a member of Rush County Retired Teachers Association, Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, Gab, Garb and Glamour Home Ec Club and professional teaching sorority Alpha Delta Kappa. Barbara enjoyed teaching swimming lessons for the Red Cross. She especially loved playing her marimba and playing euchre with friends. In her own personal ministry, she was dedicated to sending birthday/anniversary cards to the community.
In addition to her husband, Edwin, she is survived by her son Kerry G. (Trudi) Kendall of Columbus and daughter Kathy (Tony) Ratekin of Greenfield. She will also be missed by her eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, son Terry Kendall, and sister Mary Ethel Rolstad.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. at Moster Mortuary, with Rev. Marena Vittorio Schindler presiding. Friends are welcome to visit the family from 10 a.m. until the time of service in the mortuary. Burial will be held at East Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Rush County Foundation toward any of the Education Funds.
