Sylvia Huber Precht

Sylvia Huber Precht, age 90, of Brookville, died Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at the Brookville Healthcare Center in Brookville, following a lengthy illness.

Born August 16, 1933 in Franklin County, she was one of three children born to the late Alfred F. and Mabel Alice (Hoff) Huber.  She graduated with honors from the former Springfield Township High School with the class of 1951.  On July 5, 1963 she was united in marriage to Carl Donald Precht, and he preceded her in death on May 26, 1999.  

Sylvia was retired having worked for over 40 years at Sperry Rubber & Plastics in Brookville.  In her leisure time she enjoyed bluegrass music & attending Joe Mullins Southern Ohio Indoor Bluegrass Festival in Wilmington, Ohio and Bill Monroe's Music Festival at Bean Blossom, as well as the Metamora Performing Arts Festival featuring bluegrass & country music.  She also loved to attend the Renfro Valley Barn Dance & Jamboree at Renfro Valley, Kentucky.  She took extreme pride in her home and meticulous lawn, tending to her flowers and mowing her grass.  She was also quite famous for her delectable, made from scratch angel food cakes, that were quite popular at social gatherings and dinners.  

She was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church, Franklin County Historical Society, Blooming Grove Home Economics Club, A.D.O. Card Club, Brookville Red Hats Society, Franklin County Republican Women's Club, Blooming Grove Craft Club, Brookville American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Delta Theta Tau (Delts) Sorority, Housing for Urban Development government program, secretary of the Springfield Township parent teacher organization  as well as the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary of Brookville where she had been secretary.  She had also served as a Blooming Grove Township Committee person for many years, serving as a clerk for many primary and general elections.  

Survivors include a brother, Marvin G. Huber of Brookville, a step-son, Michael Precht of Bluffton, South Carolina; granddaughter, Kelli Rudisell of Brookville and dear friends and neighbors, Lee and Carolyn Hulm of Blooming Grove.

In addition to her parents, and husband Donald, she was preceded in death by a dear sister, Viola M. Huber, a brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Ruth Merrill; as well as her daughter-in-law, Sherry Swales, and step-daughter Dawn Precht.

Rev. Mark Jellison officiated the funeral service on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home.  Burial followed in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville, where Michael Biltz, William Higgs, Lee Hulm, Brent Riehle, Delbert Stang and William Struewing served as pallbearers.
