AURORA - Briggs Tackett and Sam Pavey stood atop the podium at day's end Saturday as Rushville featured two individual champions at the IHSAA wrestling sectional hosted by South Dearborn. As a team, the Lions placed 4th with 123.5 points; winning was East Central with 222 just ahead of unbeaten squads Franklin County and Milan (215 each).

All told, RCHS will have five competitors at the Richmond Regional Saturday. Blake Hunt, Denver Campbell and Pacey Dye are the others.

Tackett at 106 pounds got by Union County's Jax Rutherford with a quick pin. In the semifinals, it was another pin for the freshman over Greensburg's Cayden Beagle. Tackett then improved to 31-6 with a 7-0 decision over FC's Bryce Bruns.

Pavey (26-9) pinned Batesville's Dylan Comer in the second period to get to the semis. He then battled FC's Lane Westerman to a 4-1 win, the sophomore finishing up with a 5-0 shutout of EC's Travis Riley at 175 lbs.

Hunt (26-8) got to the 113-lb. title bout thanks to a forfeit and second-period pin of FC's Roger Zurborg. He then lasted to the final 10 seconds against unbeaten Matthew Baylor of Milan before getting pinned.

Campbell (20-13) pinned FC's Karter Smith to reach the semifinal round at 157. He lost by fall to 40-win Kaleb Wilburn of Milan, then had a major decision over SD's Zach McMullen before getting pinned by BHS' David Maher in the 3rd-place match.

Dye (22-11) also took fourth at 138. He earned a 17-2 technical fall over Lawrenceburg's Michael Scott but lost to EC's Brady Merk 6-2. Dye finished with a 6-2 win over FC's Logan Troyer and a pin loss to UC's Carson Whitley.

Kian Nash was 6th at 132, Ty Ellis 6th at 144, Elijah Biggs 6th at 165, Kaleb Amos 6th at 190, Trey Newman 5th at 215.
