Howard Edward ‘Jack’ Roemer, age 87, of Thomson, Illinois died peacefully Tuesday, June 25 at Select Specialty Hospital, surrounded by his wife and children.

Born September 1, 1936 in Brookville, he was the youngest of three children born to the late Howard W. & Nora M. (Spenny) Roemer.  He was a United States Army Veteran of the Cuban Missile Crisis, and served proudly until his honorable discharge.

A native of Brookville, he graduated from the former Brookville High School with the class of 1954, and continued his education at Ball State University where he earned his BS in Education, later earning his masters degree from Northern Illinois University.

On June 14, 1959 he and the former Sue ‘Analyn’ Stockberger were united in marriage and she survives.

Jack spent his career helping boys and girls of all ages as a counselor and teacher for 48 years.  Following his passion for sports he coached basketball, football, track, baseball and cross country for 50 years as well.  He loved to teach and help those around him and he found a career that allowed him to do just that, spending his life changing others.
