Mildred Lee

Mildred Lee of Liberty passed away on Wednesday July 17, 2024 at the Ashford Place Health Campus in Shelbyville at the age of 100.  Born on January 26, 1924 in Falmouth, Kentucky, she is the daughter of the late Ernest and Mary Frances Sellers Fields.  

On December 15, 1945, she was united in marriage to Nelson E. Lee.  They shared 36 years of marriage prior to his death in 1982.  They were blessed with two children.

Mildred graduated from Short High School in 1943.  After graduation, she went to work as the secretary for Union County Health Department and Liberty Area Planning.  She also was the secretary for the Union County Division of Family Resources and as an aide at the Kitchel School.  Outside of work, Mildred enjoyed knitting, sewing, basket making, cooking and traveling.  Mildred enjoyed a simple life and her most precious possessions were the times that she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.  

Her love and memories will be cherished by her children, Diann (Joe) Timberman and David E. Lee, both of Liberty; grandchildren, Scott (Nicole) Timberman of Maumee, Ohio and Sara (James) Thurman of Waldron; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Riley, Brady and Penny Timberman and Lucas, Samuel, Julia and Daniel Thurman.  She will be thought of often by her sister, Sue Hartley, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.  

Besides her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her stepmother, Helen Lee Fields; brothers, Carl, Kenzie, and Milton Fields and sisters, Alice Graff and Dorothy Weigle.

Funeral services were held at Urban Winkler Liberty Funeral Home, 310 N Main, Liberty, on Wednesday July 24, 2024 at 1:00 pm with her grandson-in-law, Pastor James Thurman officiating.  Friends and family gathered until the hour of the service.  Mildred was laid to rest at West Point Cemetery.
