William “Bill” Means

William R. “Bill” Means, 86, a lifelong Rush County resident, passed away June 22, 2024 in Rushville. Bill was born August 7, 1937 in Milroy to Elmer and Emma (Goodpastor) Means. Bill was a 1955 graduate of Shelbyville High School. He married Jayne Owens on May 11, 1957 and she preceded him in death December 28, 2020.

Bill worked 19 years at Dana Corporation-Perfect Circle where he was a molder. He spent 17 years at Rush County Stone where he was a master carpenter. He was self taught in everything he did from woodworking to remodeling to fishing. Many people would call Bill over the years for advice on whatever project they were trying to complete. He was a great mentor and teacher.

Bill was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rushville.

He is survived by daughters, Julie (Terry) Reynolds, Chris Gindling, Cathy Lewis and Lora (Bruce) Vaughn, brothers, Jim (Barb) Means and Francis (Vickie) Means, grandchildren, Sarah Reynolds, Amy Reynolds, Jeremiah (Dominique) Harpring, Kevin (Kayla) Lewis, Keith (Amanda) Lewis, Jada (Justin) Phillips and Scott Gindling, great grandchildren, Bentley and Remi Harpring, Harper Phillips and baby Phillips arriving in December, Archer Lewis and baby Lewis arriving in September, Randall, Alyssa and Reese Gindling, Kylie and & Alyssa Challis.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, Evelyn Smith, son-in-law, Randy Gindling and granddaughter, Karissa Gindling.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2024 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rushville, with Father Dustin Boehm presiding. Friends are welcome to visit the family from 10 a.m. until noon on Friday, June 28 in Moster Mortuary, Rushville. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
