Van Winkle competes at sectional

CONNERSVILLE – Union County freshman Autumn Van Winkle was a one-person team at the Connersville gymnastics sectional Saturday. In her postseason debut, Van Winkle was able to complete every apparatus rotation and posted a respectable 30.75 in the all-around competition; that was good for 15th among 24 in that category.
The Patriot 9th-grader was just outside the top-10 – 11th to be exact – in the uneven bars competition (7.325). She added 14th on the floor exercise (8.075), 15th on the balance beam (7.35) and slipped to 30th on the vault (even 8.0).
New Palestine, led by individual champion Lynzie Stiller, won the tournament with 100.575 points. Connersville (100.525) and New Castle (96.225) also advanced to the regional, respectively in 2nd and 3rd place. Audrey Harper and Rachael Ruf of Franklin County earned regional berths in multiple events.
