Wilbur ‘Pete’ Pennington

Wilbur 'Pete' Pennington, age 86, of Brookville, died Friday, March 1, 2024 at McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford, Ohio.

Born July 17, 1937 in Connersville, he was one of 12 children born to the late Lester and Linnie (Retherford) Pennington.  On April 28, 1956 he and the former Naomi Rosetta Sparks were united in marriage and she survives.

Pete was retired, having worked for many years at the former Ford Electronics in Connersville.  In his leisure time he enjoyed splitting wood and spending time with family and friends.  

He was a member of the Bernard Hurst Post #77 American Legion of Brookville as well as the Veterans of Foreign Wars #2014 of Brookville. 

Besides Naomi, his loving wife of nearly 68 years, survivors include four children, Brenda Riley, Kathy (Gene) Race, Kenneth (Janet Hunter) Pennington, and Marvetta Pennington all of Brookville; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren; five siblings, Geraldine (Carl) Pierce of Sunman, Indiana, Betty McDaniel and Barbara Joy Marsh both of Brookville, Indiana, Chuck (Char) Pennington of North Vernon and Robert (Kim) Pennington of Columbus, Indiana.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Wright, Irene Wells, Hazel Sparks; and three brothers, Jacob Pennington, Virgil Pennington and Raymond Pennington; a daughter-in-law, Sheila Pennington, and a son-in-law, Claude Sturgell.

Family and friends may visit from 4 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, with burial following in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville.
