Janice Burkett

Janice Burkett, 86, of Rushville, passed away on March 6, 2024. She was born August 24, 1937 in Randolph County, to the late Francis and Kathryn (Love) Dean. She was a 1955 graduate of McKinley High School and a 10 year member of Randolph County 4-H and a Junior Leader.  Janice married Tom Burkett on May 8, 1955, and he survives.

Janice was a licensed cosmetologist, hair stylist and Mary Kay consultant as well as a devoted homemaker for her family throughout her life. She was a talented artist and seamstress, creating award-winning paintings and keepsake hand-sewn clothing as her hobbies. She also loved to read, arrange flowers and spend time at the cabin in Canada. Janice was member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and Psi Iota Xi sorority in Rushville.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Karla (Tim) Billman of New Milford, CT; sons, Kevin (Julie) Burkett of Orlando, Fla. and Kip (Debbie) Burkett of Rushville; and sister, Connie Croyle of Franklin. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren, Matt (Adriane) Burkett, Emily (John) Sanderson, Ben (Hallie) Burkett, Mary Grace Burkett, Brent (Erin) Burkett, Brad (Kelsey) Burkett, Bryant (Audrie) Burkett, Morgan (Eric) McCoy, Blaire (John) Speaker, Tyler Billman (companion, Kelsey Wing) and 18 great-grandchildren.

 Janice is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Kay Uhl.

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at noon in St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Rushville, with Pastor Lonny Goen presiding. Friends are welcome to visit the family from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service in the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Rushville's Iota chapter of Psi Iota Xi's community support of art, literature and music, or St. Paul's United Methodist Church in memory of Janice.
