Gayle J. VanTrees

Gayle J. VanTrees, 102, a longtime Rushville resident, passed away, Friday, May 3, 2024 at her home in Rushville. Gayle was born January 7, 1922 in Washington, Ind. to the late Charles E. and Hazel (Streeter) Shrum.

Gayle was a 1940 graduate of Washington, Ind. High School and later went to business school. She married Warren VanTrees June 6, 1949 and he preceded her in death January 10, 2006. Gayle worked as a secretary for the War Dept. during World War II and also with her husband at Cooper’s Jewelry Store in Rushville and was a housewife and homemaker. She was very active in the Republican Party and worked the polls in Rush County and attended the 1964 Republican Convention. She was a member of A New Beginning Ministry in Rushville. Gayle enjoyed reading, especially the Bible, singing in the church choir and as a soloist at weddings and various events.

Gayle is survived by a son, Barry VanTrees (Karen) of Indianapolis, daughter, Susan VanTrees of Rushville, three grandchildren, Craig, Neil and John VanTrees, eight great - grandchildren, Sopheat, Kirby, Israel, Jenkin, Lainey, Connor, Eleanor and Nolan.

In addition to her parents, Gayle was preceded in death by two brothers.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2024 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville. Pastor Mark Mathews will preside. Friends are welcome to visit from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service the same day. Burial will be in Arlington East Hill Cemetery.
