Joan Kratzer-Kitterman

Joan L. Kratzer-Kitterman, age 88, formerly of Liberty, passed away on April 29th, 2024. She resided at the Knolls of Oxford since 2021.
Joan and her twin brother Dr. James R. Lewis were born on June 17, 1935 to Dr. James F. and Dorothy Hummel Lewis. The Lewis family resided in Liberty where Dr. Lewis was the hometown doctor. Dr. Lewis traveled in the military to the West Coast with the family; Joan’s love for travel began then.
Joan was a graduate of Miami University and later earned two masters’ degrees from Ball State University. She taught history and social studies at Union County Schools her entire teaching career. She truly enjoyed coaching the academic teams. Summers were for playing golf and traveling abroad. Joan enjoyed several trips to Europe.
Survivors include her two sons; Sam Kratzer and Scott Kratzer, six grandchildren; Nick Kratzer, Madalyn Converse, Adam Kratzer, Jennifer Kratzer, Alex Kratzer and Zach Kratzer, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, sister-in-law; Karen Lewis, nephew; James Lewis, niece; Heather Martin, aunt; Elizabeth Wolf, uncle; Charles Hummel and several cousins.
Family members preceding Joan in death: her parents, an infant brother, twin brother James and both husbands; John (Jack) Kratzer and Kent Kitterman.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation was chosen. Joan will be laid to rest with her parents at Union County Indiana West Point Cemetery. There will be no public service.
