RICHMOND – Donna Jean Pitcock, age 73, of Richmond, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on May 11, 2024. She spent her last days in prayer and worship with her church family in Booneville, Mississippi.
Donna was born July 1, 1950, in Estelle Co, Kentucky to Randy and Iva Powell. She grew up with her two sisters and four brothers in Brookville. Donna started her family at a young age and was proud to be the mother of six children. She considered herself blessed to see her family grow and to be the grandma of 17 grandchildren and great-grandma of eight great-grandchildren. Everyone who knew her knew her as a devout and faithful servant of God; a caring, nurturing mother; and a loyal friend. Donna loved taking care of children, thrifting, and traveling the country to spend time with her kids. She had many fond memories of time spent with her dearest friends whether it be a spontaneous trip to DC, going to conferences, hosting prayer meetings, or time visiting each other’s homes. Donna enjoyed helping her church in whatever capacity possible. She was at her best sharing the Word of God through personal testimony and Bible studies. Her ministry touched a multitude of lives and will carry on well beyond her years. Sister Donna will long be known for her gentle spirit.
Although Donna’s life wasn’t always easy, her faith could be summed up with 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” Psalm 116:15 tells us, “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants.” It is our faith that Sister Donna has indeed moved on to reap her eternal reward that causes us to not mourn for her but to celebrate her life of faithfulness.
Donna is survived by her children Shelly (Kevin) Gaddis of Richmond; JoAnn (Marcus) Martin of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina; Patricia (Jeremy) Childress of Booneville; Marcus (Billie) Pitcock of Richmond; Nathan Pitcock of Fairfax, Virginia; and Lorah (George) Maroulianakis of Sarasota, Florida; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Linda Miller, Randy (Connie) Powell, Debbie Powell, Dan (Cindy) Powell, Tom Powell, and Mike (Connie) Powell along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins; several brothers and sisters in the Lord; and special friends.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents Randy and Iva Powell and sister Corah Lee Powell.
A Celebration of Life for Donna will be on Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Oak Park Church, 1920 Chester Blvd, Richmond. Pastor Kevin Arthur will officiate her last earthly service at 1:00 p.m. with her body being laid to rest in Earlham Cemetery, 1101 National Road West, Richmond following the service.
