Terence Banning

Terence (Terry) K. Banning, 74, of Jacksonville, Fla., passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024, at his residence. He was born August 5, 1949, in Batesville. Terry grew up in Brookville where he worked on the family farm. He attended Brookville High School, where he was very active in football, basketball, track, canoeing, Spanish Club, and the Big Brother program. After graduating high school, Terry left Indiana for Jacksonville,Florida to attend college at JU, majoring in physical education. He graduated in 1974, and for a short time, used his degree to coach at Wolfson Sr. High School. After, Terry went into the hospitality industry where he managed numerous hotels and went on to become the director of operations for TRECOs Hospitality Group. In 1985, Terry founded Banning Management where he continued to work until his passing. He enjoyed playing golf, basketball, traveling, college sports, spending time with his family and friends, and most of all activities involving his grandchildren. He loved returning to Brookville every summer with his grandchildren during fair week and then meandering back home visiting locations along the way wherever they decided to stop. He is well known for his jokes, silly songs, and stories including a couple of unpublished children’s books (Have I ever told you about the time…)He is predeceased by his parents, G. Keith andRuth Banning, his sister Jill Taylor and his brother-in-law, Jack O’Connor. Terry leaves behind his children to carry on his memory; Patricia Brantley (Cameron), William Banning, Nichole Janney (Ted), and Scott Banning (Kelly). Terry adored his nice grandchildren: Travis Reid, Mackenzie Spruill (T.J.), Brett Banning (Heather), Bryce Janney, Ryan Banning, Gracie Banning, William Banning Jr, Zac Janney and Brody Banning, three great-grandsons, Mason, Bentley andWaylon Spruill. Terry also leaves behind two loving sisters, Jana Rae Fettig (Mike Pusker) and Mickey O’Connor (Larry Beneker) along with several nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, and countless friends he made along the way. Terry was truly loved and will be missed.
