Doubles teams prevail

UC’s No. 1 doubles team of Hallie Hughes and Peityn Gillman earned the right to continue in the state tourney with their 7-5, 6-0 win over Rushville’s Emilia Eade and Lanea Adams despite the Patriots falling 3-2 as a team to the Lions last Wednesday at the Connersville Sectional.

No. 2 doubles – Cassidee McCashland & Bella VanWinkle – also won over Isabella Simmermon & Cora Morgan 6-4, 7-6 (7-0). Singles is where the Lions feasted. Skylar Legear fell 6-3, 6-1 to Brooklyn Newbold at No. 1. Kiera Curry was overtaken by Megan Alexander at No. 2 (6-4, 6-2) and Julia West lost 6-0, 6-1 to Brooke Means. RCHS lost 5-0 to defending champ CHS in the final.
