RICHMOND – John E. Rigsby, age 94, of Richmond died Monday, May 27, 2024, at Reid Health.

Born January 21, 1930, in Union County, to Oris L. and Freda M. McMurray Rigsby, John lived most of his life in Union and Wayne Counties. John was the long-time owner/operator of his own excavation business. He was not only a cherished family member, but also a master craftsman, whose legacy lives on through the numerous golf courses that people enjoy today. 

Survivors include his daughter, Leanne Rigsby; daughter-in-law, Donna Rigsby; grandchildren, Shanon (Jason Nicholson) Rigsby, Sarah (Brandon) Strait, and Dakota (Macie) Patterson; great-grandchildren, Hayden, Lauren, Landon, Mason, Oliver, and Rylee; great great grandson, Krew; brother, Brad (Delilah) Rigsby; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Rigsby; parents; sister, Jean Brewer; and his significant other, Doris Alexander. 

Visitation for John E. Rigsby will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2024, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Earlham Memorial Mausoleum with military honors being provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard. Entombment will follow in Earlham Memorial Mausoleum.
