Lions 4-2, best start in six years

LAPEL - The first rainy Friday of the season, thanks to traces of Hurricane Helene, played to visiting Rushville’s advantage more so than host Lapel on the Bulldogs’ turf field in Madison County.

Four turnovers - all via the fumble - helped the guests post an 18-6 win in the non-conference matchup as Rushville has its best start to a season since the 2018 campaign.

Senior Braydon Wilson recovered two of the loose balls and junior Sam Pavey caused a fumble and recovered another. The latter scored on a pair of touchdown runs - one in the opening frame and the second in the final quarter - to send the Lions to their fourth win against two defeats. Senior quarterback Nick Jarman had a 1-yard keeper for a score in the second stanza as Rushville went into the halftime break up 12-0.

Pavey disrupted a decent Bulldog run game with seven solo tackles while assisting on 10 other takedowns. Adrian Apodaca totaled nine tackles, one of those being a sack of QB Devin Craig. Tailback Jack Miller was responsible for all of Lapel’s points.

RCHS has a challenge coming up Friday at Lawrenceburg (7 p.m.), the Tigers on a 5-game win streak since an opening loss to East Central.
