Freida F. Cosby, age 105, of Brookville and a former longtime resident of Crawfordsville died peacefully early Tuesday morning, October 8, 2024 at the Brookville Healthcare Center in Brookville, Indiana.
She was born October 5, 1919 in Clinton County to John and Opal Hill, her mother Opal passed away in 1923, and Freida was taken in by Orville and Myrtle Doty, who later adopted her.
She attended Sugar Plain grade school and graduated from Thorntown High School with the class of 1937. She then attended Beck’s Beauty College in Indianapolis, graduating in 1939. She was employed at beauty shops in Greencastle and Lebanon until 1944.
On March 4, 1944 she was united in marriage to Wayne J. Cosby after his return from World War II; they moved to Crawfordsville in 1945. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Crawfordsville for 70 years.
She was a member of the home Demo Club for 65 years; she was a member and Past President of the Harmony Eighteen Club; and a 50-year member of the Farm Bureau. She was a member of the Riley Cheer Guild for 60 years, having made over 30,000 puppy pillows for children at Riley Children’s Hospital until they discontinued the program.
In August 2014, she moved to Brookville to be close to her daughter. She is now a member of the Brookville United Methodist Church in Brookville.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Pam and John Ingermann of Brookville; two grandchildren, Greg (Patty) Ingermann and Jennifer (Brett) Lanning, all of Ft. Wayne; five great-grandchildren, Zach Ingermann, Luke Ingermann, Derek Lanning, Megan Lanning, Tyler Lanning; one great-great grandson Ivàn Ingermann; a half-sister, Pat Stoops of Chillicothe, Illinois; two half-brothers, Larry Hill of Shelbyville, Kentucky and David Hill of Frankfort.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wayne J. Cosby who died February 11, 2005; a brother, Howard Hill; a half-brother, Harold Hill; and two half-sisters, Helen Hemmerling and Janet Douglas.
Family and friends visited on Friday, October 11, 2024 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville.
Keith Strain officiated the funeral services on Saturday, October 12, 2024, 1:00 p.m., at Hunt & Son Funeral Home, 107 North Grant Avenue, Crawfordsville, where there was visitation until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The burial immediately followed in Oak Hill Cemetery in Crawfordsville.
