Daniel C. Heck, 81, a lifelong Shelby County area resident, passed away October 24, 2024. Dan was born September 19, 1943 in Shelbyville to Herbert Lowell and Irene Lucille (Cruser) Heck. He was a 1962 graduate of Shelbyville High School and enlisted in the USAF where he served from 1962-65 and served in the AFRES until 1968. Dan married Nancy Dice on March 17, 1967 and she survives.
He worked for GE-Wellman Thermal Systems in Shelbyville for 37 years until the plant closed in 2005. He spent seven years at Walmart in Shelbyville. He was safety coordinator for UAW#1793 in Shelbyville.
He will be missed by his wife, Nancy of Shelbyville, daughters, Holly Harrison of Falmouth and Scarlet Guillot of Greensburg, brother, Larry (Phyllis) Heck of Shelbyville, sister, Terri Lee (Darrell) Law of Shelbyville, granddaughters, Mariah (Kevin) Marlatt of Glenwood, Samantha O. Harrison (Isiah Wilson) of Fort Stewart, Ga. and Rose Ida Pluma of Shelbyville, greatgrandson, Kelby Gene Marlatt. Dan was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Billy Joe and Edward Lowell Heck.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 28, 2024 in Moster Mortuary, Rushville where friends visited the family Sunday, October 27 in the mortuary. Burial was in the Richland Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity or to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation @ 230 East Ohio Street, Suite 500 Chicago, Illinois 60611.
Military rites will be observed and provided by the Rush County Veteran’s Honor Guard.
