BHS dominates rainy Classic

After an hour delay from early storms Saturday, the Batesville cross country teams stepped to the line at the annual Rushville Invitational. Final scores were separated out by two divisions. OA’s Santiago Schutte (18:08) was 4th in division II. Both Bulldog squads crushed the field as the girls scored a low 19 points and the boys 24, having all varsity runners in the top 15 of each race. The Dogs also had the overall champions in seniors Kaylynn Bedel (season-best 19:57) and Jake Chapman (16:40pr).

Jayla Bedel started a string of five Lady Bulldogs in third (21:11pr), followed by Paige Allgeier (21:14pr), Bayleigh Demaree (21:33.1), Samantha Adams (21:33.6) and Hilary Ziegler (21:54pr) with Caitlin Raver in 10th (22:15pr). For the JV girls, senior Isabel Raab came in 1st with teammate Jade Martin (PR) and Charlotte Trossman closely behind.

Cannon Clark also ran a PR of 17:18 to take runner-up and Isaac Trossman took 3rd (17:42). Freshman Levi Essick was 8th (18:35pr) and Cash Myers 10th (18:41). Ethan Rahschulte ran 13th (18:53) and Jaden Basler 15th (18:57). Landon Raver led the JV team coming in 2nd. 

New Castle’s girls placed 2nd at 56 points. Rushville’s boys finished 2nd with 48. Gianna Franklin, Aubree Spurlock, Varsath Rajesh and Tripp Hertel also had BHS personal bests.  

The Ripley County meet is Thursday at Jac-Cen-Del.
