BHS cross country traveled to Jac-Cen-Del Thursday to compete at the county meet in some stubborn heat. Both Bulldog teams ran exceptionally well to capture Ripley County trophies, the girls finishing with a perfect score of 15 and the boys posting 23 to Milan’s 42.

Kaylynn Bedel, senior, led eight consecutive Lady Bulldogs across the finish line to win MVP (21:32) past teammate Lexiyne Harris (21:40). All seven varsity girls made all-county. The pack after Harris read Jayla Bedel, Paige Allgeier, Samantha Adams, Hilary Ziegler, Caitlin Raver and Bayleigh Demaree the champion for JV.

Milan’s Gabe Riehle outkicked Batesville’s Jake Chapman for the boys title - 16:47 to 17:00. Cannon Clark just outkicked Milan’s Lucas Cooney for 3rd place (17:18). Isaac Trossman, Levi Essick, Cash Myers and Jaden Basler came across the line next in 5th - 8th place, with Ethan Rahschulte getting the last spot in 10th qualifying for the all-county team. Leading the way for the JV squad was junior Landon Raver.

With a chill in the air, coach Lisa Gausman welcomed a pleasant change for the East Central Invitational Saturday. The boys kept it rolling by scoring 18 to EC’s 49. The girls were 2nd to EC, 22-33. Batesville had 18 personal bests and many other season bests.

Blue (BHS) and black (EC) took turns crossing the finish line in the girls race. EC’s Callie Bentley was incredible, breaking the meet record flying through at 18:45! Bedel and Harris crossed in 3rd (20:07) and 4th (20:10). Then EC took 5th and 6th with the next three spots within a second of each other. Allgeier was 7th (20:48.2pb), then EC (20:48.8) then J. Bedel (20:49.2pb). The Bulldogs had the next three spots (10th-12th) with Adams (21:08), Raver (21:09.2pb) and Ziegler (21:09.2pb). Demaree again won JV (21:39) with Maycee Holtkamp as runner-up (21:49pb).

All seven varsity boys were in the top 10 and BHS took the top 3 JV spots. Chapman was first to cross with a 17-second career best of 16:23. Just 23 seconds behind him also running a career best was Clark at 16:46 in 2nd. Trossman came through in 4th (17:27). Although there was a minute gap, the Dogs had the rest of the varsity come in within 15 seconds of each other.
