Winifred Nellena Rummel, 99 of Rushville, passed away on September 20, 2024 in Rushville. She was born on December 9, 1924 in Shelby County to the late Roy and Rena (Miller) McAhren. Nellena was a 1943 Waldron High School graduate. She married Gene Rummel and he preceded her in death. Nellena was a secretary for 42 years at Arrow Gas Company. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Nellena has been a ticket holder since 1958 for Rushville Boys and Girls Basketball. She deeply loved her family. Nellena enjoyed her Canadian fishing trips with her husband, Tuesday Ladies Group and her morning coffee group.
Nellena is survived by her sons, William (Donna) Rummel of Maryland and Jack (Rosie) Rummel of Glenwood; daughter, Patricia Genell (companion, Jim Gravely) Custer of California; brothers, Gordon (Barbara) McAhren of California, David (Janet) McAhren of Shelbyville; sister, Electa Whitecotton of Mississippi. She also will be missed by her five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren.
Nellena is preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter, Angela “Angie” Rummel Eckstein; sister, Vivian Cox and brother, Laurence McAhren.
Per her request, no public services are planned. The family of Nellena wanted to specially thank Our Hospice of South Central Indiana and Flatrock River Lodge of Rushville for all of their care. Moster Mortuary is entrusted to the arrangements.
