Gillman leads UC to sectional title

Your Union County Lady Patriots’ golf team is the 2024 IHSAA Sectional Champion!
Senior Peityn Gillman was tournament MVP as she shot 74 at Liberty Country Club Friday to finish well ahead of Richmond’s Hannah Stearley’s 80. Junior Nora Robinson placed third overall for the hosts with an 81. The top-3 finishes translated into an 18-stroke victory over 2nd-place defending champ Richmond – 345-363. Northeastern also advanced to the regional with the white ribbon (383).
Sophomores Melanie Goecke and Aubrey Beck shot 93 and 97, respectively, to help UC defend its home course. Addisyn Lathery finished at 119.
New Castle’s Lydia Hines (88) was the top finisher among non-advancing teams; she will play another weekend as will two Centerville Lady Bulldogs – Emma Staton (90) and Kenna Hemmerling (95).
UC returns to the regional, again hosted by Lapel at Anderson’s Edgewood Golf Club Saturday (tee time 9 a.m.).
